Meet Roy, Garage Door Specialist at GDR Sydney
If you’ve booked a job with GDR Sydney in the past couple of years, chances are you’ve already met Roy. Friendly, practical, and always up for a challenge, Roy has been part of the crew since 2021 and has quickly become one of the go-to blokes on the team for tricky repair jobs.
Roy grew up in Blacktown and went to Mitchell High School. He was the type of kid who’d pull things apart just to figure out how they worked. Bikes, remotes, even the odd lawn mower. After school, he completed a Certificate III in Electrotechnology and later specialised in domestic automation systems. That background gave him an edge when it comes to garage door openers, wiring faults, and all the techy bits most tradies avoid.
Before joining GDR Sydney, Roy worked for a national home automation company. But he missed being out on the tools and working one on one with customers. Joe met him through a supplier and offered him a trial. He’s been a full time technician with us ever since.
Roy is fully certified with Working at Heights, High Risk Work WP, and has completed advanced training in sectional, tilt, and roller door systems. He handles everything from motor installs and spring replacements to full garage door installations across Sydney. Customers often mention him by name in their reviews, especially for his patience and clear communication.
He’s known for saying, “Let’s sort it today,” and that’s exactly what he does. Roy is a same day service kind of bloke and prides himself on getting the job done properly the first time. Whether it’s a noisy roller in Penrith or a full panel replacement in Mosman, he’s on the road early and stays until the last job is finished.
When he’s not working, Roy spends time with his wife Emma and their dog Benny. He’s a keen fisherman, always chasing the next big flathead down near Botany Bay. He also volunteers with a local Mens Shed, helping out with repairs and teaching younger guys a few practical skills.
